Just a FYI (not OP or anything but can relate,) I don't watch anything with cops in it. Actually, most of my fandoms are Japanese and races are seldom an issue. So when people in fandom-related "safe spaces" start talking about it, I'm afraid I don't have much to add. Perhaps I never watched a cop show precisely because I was never into it. Anyway, my point being, people do have different experiences and, as someone who lives outside the US, yes, it's true that cops aren't the same in every place just like not every place is that racist. (Trust me when I say the US is pretty racist.) So, sometimes it's really an issue that people who don't have a lot of knowledge on the US (as a local should and most don't) can't say a lot about it.

Sorry, I don't know which part of the comment you're replying to, but yeah I think if you're in a different country or watch different media that's going to make a difference. that said sketchy law enforcement and racism is everywhere regardless of intensity or breadth, so i don't think that means people can't investigate their own countries.
