Unvent about Kitten
(Anonymous) 2020-06-14 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)which is half of the not-vent dilemma, cus she's picked my bed to sleep in at night both nights she's been here. It's not as if she doesn't have a bed, we bought her two, but she's picked my pillow and then my quilt of her own volition. But i toss and turn quite a lot in my sleep, and the thought of squishing her accidentally is terrifying to me, when she's so new and soon. To not help matters, she's currently very human-touch-averse, having only been handled for medication so far, so it's not like I can pick her up and put her in her actual bed without fuss and broken trust.
Any ideas on what to do about this, outside of just lying stiff and not sleeping while she does? Most of the advice ive seen amounts to "don't cosleep" which is great until the kitten decides to cosleep without your input or "she'll get out of the way if you roll over" except what if she doesn't, and i feel like im overthinking this and not being grateful for or enjoying the cat but im so worried, it hurts my skull.

(Anonymous) 2020-06-14 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)If you're suggesting putting a box on the bed for her to sleep in, what guarantee is there I won't then squish the box? Unless said box is a wardrobe drawer, I suppose...
Re: Unvent about Kitten
(Anonymous) 2020-06-14 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)otherwise - unless she is truly teeny and too small to have left her mother, I'd think she will be fine, just don't let her get under your duvet/blankets so she doesn't overheat/get trapped.
Most kittens I've been involved with (We've had three strays come into my mother's home and give birth over the years - she has a cat flap and clearly a maternity ward feel to the home), and they have all managed. The first gave birth on my bed when I was in it (well, at the start), then took her babies to live behind the headboard. Being woken in the middle of the night by kittens raining down on you isn't as cute as you'd imagine. (They learned to climb, clambered to the headboard and would then plummet onto my face.)
I can understand your anxiety, if she is less than 8 weeks, then I would be concerned, but beyond that, she'll get annoyed if you flop about too much and move.

As someone else suggested, moving under the covers might work. She wouldn't see that as a human touch necessarily or as a threat, but it might startle her enough to move her.
You could try moving her bed so it is right next to yours and that way she'd still be near your scent. But she's likely to still want to be as close to you as possible when sleeping.
Another suggestion would be maybe an extra blanket at the foot of the bed piled up. Something really soft that would attract her. Cats are really drawn to soft blankets, so she might decide to lay on that rather than on your pillow and at least she'd be a little safer down there.
Re: Unvent about Kitten
You *won't* squish her, she'll move. If she's touch-averse, maybe just try snuggling and scooting a little closer and a little closer, until she gets huffy and moves away.
OR - put her bed on your bed (if there's room), and do a little playtime, drag a toy around or something, get her all hopping around until she's a little tired, then coax her into her bed. If you sit up and read or computer in bed for a little, she'll sleep in her bed while you're still up and hopefully stay there and/or it will become a habit for her to just stay there. Good luck!
