I agree with both parts

I also enjoy the "NO BETA" "WE DIE LIKE MEN" as two separate tags. I too walk these dangerous unbetaed streets, as a reader and writer lol

But I never tag my stuff like this. I feel like it must be young tumblr people doing it. Like...the only way I ever knew there was a beta was when the A/N would shout them out. These days, I shrug. Most people are going in blindfolded, swords drawn.

I like when fandoms customize it. Like in The Witcher "NO BETA WE DIE LIKE RENFRI".

I'm personally a fan of the variations of "not beta read", but this one's fun too.

It's cute, sure, but...man...proofread. At least *re-read* once or twice.

I guess "we die like men" = thinking one never makes any correctable mistakes?

I thought it meant 'we go down in flames and don't care that we wrote 'prostate' instead of 'prostrate' fifteen times'.

I used write a lot of fanfic and never used a beta. I had so many things going on that I had to be serious about, that I didn't want that hobby to be another of them. I did reread chapters before posting and if anyone caught a typo I would thank them and fix it. My stories probably would have been better with a good beta, but people were very kind about my stories and I had fun.

Do you still write fic?

(Anonymous) 2020-06-17 02:34 pm (UTC)(link)
AYRT -- Not really, no. I got a dog and got involved in training classes with him, so now my main hobby is dog stuff and I don't find I'm as interested in fandom. I do still read a bit in my fandoms and I had a LOT of fun with fic when I was writing it regularly, but my energy is really elsewhere these days. I do have one story I would like to finish but I don't know if it's going to happen.

Sounds great, tbh. Dogs are the best.

I am SO MUCH HAPPIER since I got this dog. My mental health has improved so much. Dogs really are the best. :)

Sometimes I don't use a beta, but I never advertise it in the tags.

I just love the phrase "We die like men!" Its so evocative. Do you mean bravely? Pointlessly? Violently? Without ever admitting you're in over your head?

I'm here for all of it.
