Sorry you were bullied OP, and no, you didn't deserve it.

TBH, I've never read those books and didn't know anything about them before but that summary makes them sound kind of interesting to me. Personally, characters sacrificing themselves for others is one of my favorite tropes.

... sam,e though there is a difference between sacrificing for a worthy cause, and accepting being a punching bag because Suffering is Holy.

I think that distinction is exactly why I find that literature cathartic.
