I don't notice with books, but I do find myself watching TV and going, "Wow, this place is r e a l l y white," mostly with extras and stuff? Like, it's standard for most modern shows to have at least a few POC in the main cast, right, but I see a lot of crowd scenes that trend very... pasty. Also with secondary characters.

To me, it really depends on where it's set. I live in a very diverse city, but when I went to visit a friend in Indiana once, everyone there really WAS white and it was shocking to me as someone who is used to being surrounded by people of all different ethnicities.
