Based on #2

What are your favorite "pair the spares" pairings? Either because you like to read them or just find it hilarious that THAT pairing got popular.

Mine is Clint/Coulson. They have one line of dialogue together in which Clint isn't even named (in Thor) but somehow become one of the top 10 MCU pairings on AO3.

I don't ship it as much anymore, but I'll always have a special place in my heart for Sam/Gabriel lol

I never read Sam/Gabriel except when they were the other pairing in a Destiel fic. :p

Mycroft/Lestrade in the BBC Sherlock. I actually ship them more than Johnlock by a country mile!

I think that might be an even crazier pairing because I don't think they ever spoke to each other until season 3?

All the more room to play? LOL IDK, I think it's probably based solely on Rupert Graves to be honest. There's a sort of Maurice-ness to the set up. Something there anyway.

I never fully shipped Mystrade (I was Johnlock all the way) but I do really enjoy it as a side ship. And The Least Of All Possible Mistakes was fucking brilliant.

Haven't read that one! Have you got a link nonny?

It's fem!Lestrade and Mystrade, which, I can understand if turning Mystrade het isn't for everyone. Tbh, genderswaps aren't usually my thing, and I didn't even read all that much Mystrade. But wholly shit, this fic was A++, cannot recommend enough, there is a reason it has 8800 kudos.

ardeth/jonathan from the mummy movies, i read a fic because i was curious and it made me like the idea of them. not to any huge lvl, i don't otp them or anything, but they're a fun low-key ship for me.

I had to look those two up because I've not seen any of the Mummy movies in like a decade. Do they have scenes together?

Re: Based on #2

(Anonymous) 2020-06-21 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
i think they mostly share scenes together with other characters, the only notable moment i can remember is in the mummy 2 where jonathan shoots a dude about to hurt ardeth and they have a 'thanks bro' nod, but outside of a few small interactions across both movies i don't recall them having a huge amount of time together.

Da, but one of my favourite moments for them is when Ardeth (accidentally?) scares the bejeezus out of Jonathan at the end of Mummy 1. It just has lots of lovely little details, such as Ardeth apparently somehow sneaking up behind them on a camel (granted they'd been staring at a collapsing city), him choosing to put his hand on Jonathan's shoulder of all of them, telling them they've earned his respect while apparently looking at Jonathan, and then Jonathan doing his usual 'totally meant to do that' routine before watching Ardeth ride off into the desert. (Mostly in annoyance that Ardeth is just leaving them there empty-handed with no treasure, but still).

IDK, they had a lot of small, casual interactions that were quite nice.

I used to like Darcy/Loki from the Thor movies, but I got sick of the MCU in general and haven't thought about them in ages. Same with Neville/Luna in Harry Potter.

Darcy was shipped with everyone, including people in other fandoms.

I like Peter/Chris in Teen Wolf and I'm surprised I didn't think of that myself because werewolf/hunter is a thing on that show. Lol.

I approve of Roxy/Princess Tilde in the Kingsman fandom. I don't know where that came from but it is a thing.

Have come across Bucky/Loki a few times in Steve/Thor fics. Don't know if favorite is the right word, but an interesting dynamic.

Since I happen to like either Clint/Natasha or Sam/Natasha, I like them as spare the pair pairings in Steve/Bucky fics. Same with Pepper/Tony or Steven Strange/Tony.

Bruce/Tony is a side pairing that shows up in either Steve/Bucky or Steve/Thor fics, and I think that has an interesting dynamic. I don't actively seek fics for that given I don't find Bruce particularly attractive, but I like the science bros dynamic of the pairing.

Rey/Finn is often a pairing in Kylo/Hux fics if the heroes show up. I like Rey/Finn a lot, so that's cool with me.

Before I left the Potter fandom, my final main ship was Harry/Ron/Hermione. Ginny/Neville was often the side pairing when the trio was shipped together Either that or Ginny/Dean. Ginny/Dean was okay, but I actually actively shipped Ginny/Neville and thought they were great together.

I've read a few good Bucky/Loki fics in my time. I am always surprised that Bruce/Tony isn't as big as I thought it would be. Bruce/Thor isn't super huge either. Despite them having a buddy movie together.

Re: Based on #2

[personal profile] philstar22 2020-06-21 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
It is probably just because Bruce isn't seen as super hot in the way the other characters are. TBH that's why I don't go out of my way to read Bruce-centered shippy fics. I'm happy for him to be in fics, but I'm not looking actively for fics about him. I'm mostly reading for Thor, Steve, Bucky, Strange, Sam, Danvers, or Nebula.
