I also enjoy some gen in SPN, my own ships are rather small. But I will agree, people will pair ANYBODY on this show. They don't even need screen time. Granted, that has never stopped shippers in any fandom before (my crossover loving self included) -- and as a person who loves pairing antagonists, I can't say I blame them -- but I always make sure my ships (if hero/villain) always illustrate that this is not a fluffy sweet kind of romance. By virtue of their relationship and what they have done to each other, they are not in it for the "feels". And if one of them does catch feelings, trust the other may take advantage; it will be messy.

I don't think it has anything to do with attention spans, I think it has to do with the fact that the game was released in the midst of an unprecedented global pandemic where people were desperate for things to do.

Most people don't give a toss about mediums, if anything they're impressed if a very complicated piece was made in traditional tools.

Here's the tough pill: algorithms like twitter favor digital artists because they tend to post art in a faster pace and gain more engagement that way. A lot of the most popular artists are very mediocre for this reason.

I've said a couple of times on here that Sam/Jack was a ship for me before I even knew what shipping was. I was about 12 or 13 when the series started.

But I get why you're attracted to Sam/anyone. She's probably one of the characters I'd say has the most crossover with everyone else.

I feel you, OP. I watched a couple seasons and enjoyed most of it, but eventually drifted away. They're a lovely bunch of people and the idea is lovely but it feels very... temporary. I'm glad if there are people whose problems can be solved with a house make-over, a personal make-over, a pep talk and being shown how to make guacamole but it feels a bit too superficial and that's the reality show part coming it.

There is so much to SW EU that I had no idea about. I say this as a casual consumer of SW (prequels and the TFA and TLJ or whatever was movie #2).

But lately, as I grow more curious and see a lot of comic art/fan art for a bunch of characters that exist in the books etc that are never shown on screen (but maybe mentioned in Clone Wars Animated Series, I guess), in addition to the Star Wars trading cards my brother had as a kid (I would collect all the female characters and interesting looking men), it's crazy some of the stories! Lately, I've been focusing on the women with the title "Darth", and I'm just like WHOA.

Most recent character I learned about was Quinlan Vos, who was a Jedi, turned darkside for some Darth lady, ended up abandoning them too but got with this Khaleen Hentz. There are just entire story lines happening, and I never know WHERE on the timeline they happen, but it's crazy!

I'm sort of conflicted over this kind of thing.

On the one hand, I think that a lot of cop-based fiction clearly does function as propaganda. I don't think there can be any question about that. These shows function as propaganda and disseminate a bunch of different messages - for example, with Criminal Minds, it's not just the myth of the infallible protective FBI, but also the omnipresent danger, and all too often, the omnipresent danger specifically directed against young, pretty white women. All of these things absolutely do have an effect.

At the same time, I don't think you have to believe those messages to watch and enjoy cop media. Maybe not Criminal Minds specifically, because Criminal Minds does lean really hard on those messages. But you can watch things like this while being aware that they're presenting a political message that's not the reality. It obviously creates a sense of dissonance that is unpleasant but there are a lot of appealing things about police shows as a genre and the reason for their popularity is not limited to their function as copaganda. And of course, ultimately it's better to be aware of these things and be critical of the media you're consuming, even if it is a bummer. Because it's not unique to cop media, tons of things have implicit outlooks that underlie the story that are wrong or harmful.

I have found that it bugs me less the more distant it is - reading a story about Scotland Yard in the 1930s, it's a lot easier to separate yourself from it, even if you're still aware of the ways it's propping up a political or social narrative.
