If it's true that the author of the books has been fan-casting white actors to play the role all along, and the character is depicted as white on the book covers, then it seems like a pretty major stretch to call it whitewashing when they cast a white actor.

Authors have next to no say in what cover art their books get. I've seen books where characters who were very explicitly described as non-white were white on the covers. Cover art means nothing. Now, if she's white in the comics that might be a valid point, if only because they count as a canon, if not necessarily the exact same canon as the books.

Hi I'm from the UK and the cover is shiny and pretty and doesn't have any characters on it.

DA: This is the 2002 UK cover on my bookshelf. The original UK covers followed this sort of Book/computer/cube cover template. Not that the UK covers are the Ultimate To Be Respected but this the one that anon above was referring to.

Hi I'm from Australia and we have the same cover but I didn't want to get into the discussion about different editions and all that.
...though having said that, I just did a little googling, and I can't find any editions where Holly Short is a) on the cover and b) clearly white. There's a couple where she's there in the background, but none where she looks anything other than 'Ambiguously Fey'.
