IDK, Joker read as SUPER bi to me...

THAT is a good reading. I was like that at first, but my personal (no pun intended? haha... that was... unBEARable) sad belief now is "he's canonically the kind that beams chaotic bi but is actually straight" :/

After Royal, I think he is anything but straight to be honest. Akechi's thirst is contagious as seen in the 3rd semester.

Oh, haven't played Royal yet but I heard that! ... As long as that's not the Persona 6 I was talking about (because I doubt I'll change my mind about P5 so much!) I'm fine, bring the gayer Akechi.

Without spoilers, in Royal it is heavily hinted that Akechi is "canon" interest for the protagonist and he is the one character that has borderline romantic actions towards the MC, starting with mostly inviting him on dates.

Vague Spoilers for 3rd Sem
The last part of the game clearly states that the MC can only be restrained if Akechi's life is in risk. Something which is a "trivial" matter to Akechi, but not so trivial for the MC. Then there is the song titled "No more what ifs" which serves as Akechi's theme song, and "Our Light" which is for the MC... Yeah they really went all out on that game.

(And let's not speak of Mementos Mission, the official manga featuring them as partners and MC dressed up as a policewoman in disguise...)

I think if it was not for the fact that P5R had to follow P5 and give people the waifus, they would probably go further in that territory, but it's still a Hashino Katsura game, so there is nothing could be done about that. I was really hesitant about P5R after the sloppy and lazy writing that was "P5 after Kamoshida" but 120 hours in, I don't regret replaying the game.

Oh. ... That sounds cool at first but. Doesn't that make it even more frustrating though, as you can't actually choose to date him in the end (I assume)? To me that just looks a lot ... Like queerbaiting thrown in after complaints that P5 was Not Gay Enough and Japanese (particularly Japanese Fujoshi) love this kind of foes-to-friends-to-foes-friends-foes-fffucking trope. Honestly knowing this makes me more annoyed than anything because it IS typical Japanese Media Hide Your Gays.
Oh, that's nice though. I should probably watch a LP at least to get what it's about while I can't play huh. Thanks!

Aw, this makes me sad as a protag/Ryuji shipper. I would have hoped you could get more action with him (like give him presents and stuff). That I can't romance my vulgar boy (or any of the guys, really) is one of two gripes I have with P5.

Even in P5 I thought that Akechi had a thing for the MC, so it's nice if that is expanded a bit in Royals, at least. I really wish P5 wasn't so damn straight.

I feel you on this too lol. Maybe it's more a matter of "shipper heart, broken" than just it being a cliche why I am bitter at knowing this.

Same here. While I do appreciate the shuake we got in Royal I wish we could get an actual confirmation/chance to romance the guys outside of mods. (And everyone calling them out on being so gay. Even Mona goes "Oh you've been together with Akechi a lot lately, not that this is a bad thing! I support you!")

But then again, even the Japanese side of the fandom (mostly the guys) would probably go hysteric if something like that was announced. (Remember Tales of Zestiria with the Alisha and SorMik discourse)

Re: OP

(Anonymous) 2020-06-23 04:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Right? Oh, I'm kind of curious now. It does sound to me (as I haven't experienced it yet?) like fujoshi-pandering somehow, but I really got to play to know.
Oh, SorMik definitely. Tales of is another franchise that goes back and forth a lot on "thats gay" and "whats gay", yeah, it's not just people in the West who are plagued by cis male homophobic gamer dudebros huh.

As sort of a sidenote. On that matter... It's why I respect P4 so much too. (Spoilers!) There we have nearly Everyone Is Gay, which is kind of shocking in itself... but Yosuke, the "relatable/average [and homophobic] friend" who is an immature elite guy with a bearshounen sleeping in his closet. All of Yosuke is a big canon "oh, um, okay" and I think that sort of irony and contradiction in the nature of homophobia is also something that they wanted to poke fun at. And I just want to give a toast to whoever wrote it.

It gets worse when you think about how Yosuke had a canon love confession dubbed, then later deleted from the game, BUT the voiceclip is still there.

Re: OP

(Anonymous) 2020-06-23 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
It gets funnier when you consider the voiceclip was dubbed in Japanese and English.
