Too big #1 - Wheel of Time

Well, I am waiting to see of the show decides to ease up on the "female-on-male violence to show this woman is tough and strong" that I remember being rampant in the books, and will hate all female characters that do fall into that trap. I know it's not the characters' fault, just bad writing, but the moment Nynaeve whacks someone with her stick I'm done with her.

(And, yes, please let them do right by Mat!)

Yeah, that's a Wheel of Time staple, but one that's easily dumped, so hopefully they do in fact dump it.

...Did...you not watch Rebels? Huge things from Legends was ported over and is canon now.

True. Although, Legends was never canon except explicitly for elements that were taken and put into canon. There were some elements that were originally from Legends and then put into the movies, into Clone Wars, or into Rebels. The tv shows were always meant to be canon.

But other than the elements that show up in canon, Legends was never intended to be canon. Fans just assumed it was canon or "almost canon" because it was internally consistent and because Lucas approved of it existing. But Lucas was clear that he was fine with them making it but that he did not consider it canon. Some fans just chose to ignore that and then got mad when their belief that Legends was canon was ultimately proved incorrect even though it had all along not been correct and never been said to be true by Lucas or any Lucasfilm.

I can tell you that the gender arguments are going to be absolutely exhausting and I'm already trying to steel myself to avoid them as much as possible

Sorry, but the EU was never canon and Clone Wars was always canon. Nothing changed because that was always the way it was. Fans just ignored that because they wished it were different and because nothing existed to contradict the EU for a long time. But Lucas had always said that the EU was a separate thing. And it was also made clear from the beginning with the movie that started Clone Wars that it was meant to be canon.

+1

The EU was just a way for Lucasfilm to make money off of Star Wars with minimal effort.

Okay, tell me the truth: is it worth finishing the Wheel of Time series? I stopped around 8. TELL ME.

(Anonymous) 2020-06-24 02:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Wait, it got finished? I thought the author died.

Sanderson was hired to finish the series.

I think the 8th book is more or less the low point of the series, so if you've got that far, you might as well continue.

The 9th book and 11th book are excellent. the 10th is very bad in that basically nothing happens and honestly I would consider skipping it and just reading a summary. And then the 3 Sanderson books are brisk and generally satisfying enough.
