Re: What does doxxing actually mean

I feel like language drift online is so much faster than I’m used to - but my understanding has been it’s sharing info in a highly trafficked place online with the intent of making someone much more easily tracked or identifiable in RL, or otherwise vulnerable to the public at large (and that that info effectively affects that person’s life).

Not exactly sure where the cut-off is for something being doxxing or not, but I think it depends on people wanting or expecting a certain level of privacy or anonymity online, the type of info shared, the severity of effect the info has, and the person sharing it. But including someone’s contact info (social media profile, email, home/work addresses or phones, etc.) without consent even if it’s publicly available immediately shoots something into doxxing territory imo.
