I can't speak to the book as I haven't read it, but just wanted to say that your sidenote comments made me laugh :D. Especially the bit about hearing "A Whole New World".

As for the general sentiment of the secret, eh, I don't think it's dumb. At least you were able to finally put your finger on what it was about the book that disappointed you.

I hate that it’s become a trend I’m seeing for sexuality headcanon posts (on tumblr and twitter, mostly) to virtue signal by saying somewhere "[character under 18] is a child uwu." It’s like, ah, yes, because minors can’t have sexualities, because it has "sex" in the name and is therefore bad and any under 18 must be kept away from it at all costs or else the world will end. As if sexuality doesn’t mean also who you’re romantically interested in. And like, queer minors have been told all their lives (lord knows it happened to me) that their feelings are just phases, or not real, or bad, or inherently predatory for being queer. If you’re uncomfortable assigning a minor a sexuality, fine, but don’t act like it’s the moral or woke thing to do because it’s anything but! It contributes to a culture of telling queer youth that their feelings are bad and wrong! I’m so sick of purity culture and antis acting so woke they circle right back into blatant queerphobia.

I’m definitely not an anti, but I cannot stand Futaba fanboys: the type who overly sexualize her and call her their ‘waifu’ and act like romancing her is the only valid romance in the game. It makes me kind of suspicious because it’s like, dude, why do you want to f*ck the one girl here that used to be a shut-in and only recently learned personal agency? It feels very slimy.

Yeah, it started out kinda interesting to look at but after a while I just... couldn't concentrate in it anymore? Didn't help that it somehow got more boring as it went on, despite all the fighting in the end?
I can't even tell if I would have liked it better with more color, but it would definitely helped keeping my attention a bit better?

I knew the show was heading towards Uhtred/Aethelflaed and even though it feels less creepy because they kept the same actor for Uhtred while Aethelflaed grew up, it's still kind of ugh that he was an adult when she was born. Too much age gap!

Now I'm wondering how I managed to be so oblivious about it all. I was vaugely aware this was a thing but not that it was an ongoing thing.

Edit: And... eh. People do enjoy reading about drama. Sure, this IS serious stuff, but that 'WTF me?' makes me think you know this and won't do stuff like have uncomfortable conversations with people who could be hurt.
