I feel like I disagree with you but I also feel like I want to stay away from whatever this whole mess is

(Anonymous) 2020-06-30 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I understand they're both 19 but I'm still going to wonder why in the fuck they're designed that way, and why some fanartists choose to accentuate it.

Are you the OP of secret 4? Lots of people "look like" wildly different ages in real life despite being the same age. Its actually super common to the point that I don't think there really is such a thing as "looking your age." And I wish it was more commonly depicted in fiction.

(Anonymous) 2020-07-01 06:47 am (UTC)(link)
SA. I meant secret 5.

(Anonymous) 2020-07-01 11:07 am (UTC)(link)
In real life, yes, people have no control over how they look, and age at different rates, it's true. In fiction, though, I am absolutely going to side-eye thee creator's choice to make one character in a relationship look like a child and one like an adult. There are ways to show the difference in character design without making the younger-looking character indistinguishable from the children in the series.

Wait, they’re both the same age? Well, TIL. I never shipped them, so I guess I have no horse in this race, but why would it be heteronormative if they’re both guys?

(Anonymous) 2020-06-30 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I've seen people claim that Korra×Asami(f×f) is more heteronormative than Korra×Bolin (f×m) because people not acting their gender roles in the later.
Sometimes people logic through loops.

(Anonymous) 2020-06-30 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Because people want to ship what they want to ship, but they're so tangled up in virtue signalling that they first have to wrap it all in a layer of "This is why my ship is more Worthy and Correct than your ship". It doesn't actually make sense.

(Anonymous) 2020-07-01 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
Same. Always assumed the older looking dude was 30s or 40s

(Anonymous) 2020-07-01 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
Because Kurapika cross-dressed ONCE to bait his sworn enemies he was planning on killing, clearly he must be a woman.

I mean, I assume that's their logic, because that's the only thing even close to feminine he's ever done. And I guess if you squint and ignore backstory you might call his traditional robes a dress, although no one else in universe has ever mistaken him for a girl seriously.

(Anonymous) 2020-07-01 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
That's actually a joke in it. Everyone keeps calling him the "old man" and he shouts "I'm not old, I'm a teenager like you guys!" And everyone reacts with such over-the-top shock because he looks, you know, hella old, even to the other characters.

This... explains some of the posts that occasionally show up on my dash. Since I've seen a total of one episode of the show and all, and happily assumed that Kurapika was twelve and Leorio twentysomething.

(Anonymous) 2020-06-30 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I’ve read the whole manga thus far and saw most of the anime and I also thought Kurapika was like twelve or thirteen. At least closer in age to Gon and Killua than to Leorio.

(Anonymous) 2020-07-01 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
Wait, they don't at least say so in canon? I've been seeing them from an outside perspective and just assumed I'm missing obvious context.

(Anonymous) 2020-07-01 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
If they have, I’ve forgotten it. Maybe it’s in one of the character profiles in the manga.

(Anonymous) 2020-07-01 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
Killua somewhat implies it by saying Gon is the only other kid he's seen. It's subtle, but it did push everyone else to be 16+ in my mind back when I first read it.

(Anonymous) 2020-06-30 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I have no idea what this even is for but why would antis ship it?
Wouldn't they just yell that the blonde one is minor coded and bully the shippers?

(Anonymous) 2020-06-30 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Why wouldn't some antis ship it? It's two 19-year-olds. It doesn't involve the stuff they take issue with in other pairings.

(Anonymous) 2020-07-01 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
Yes! Someone who makes ships about morality is always going to get caught out shipping the "wrong" thing eventually because it's all stupid made-up shit.

(Anonymous) 2020-07-01 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
I thought kurapika is 17
