I think some of what JKR said was problematic, and I don't think she fully understands the issues she's talking about. However, the way everything she said seems to have been interpreted through the most negative possible lens, while any of the positive, supporting things she said have been summarily dismissed, is something I find jarring, and just generally don't agree with.

Beyond that, I agree with pretty much your whole comment, OP. :)

People interpreted it that way because of the context of her other behavior where she consistently supports and agrees with other transphobes and does things that indicate she's transphobic.

That's not an unreasonable thing to take into account. Actually, I think it's kind of bizarre not to take it into account.

Presumably "I don't hate trans people, I have trans friends" which as we all know, is a totally legit and valid defense against any and all criticisms of discrimination.
