I'm sorry people are attacking you, OP. You are completely right, and we should be able to discuss these issues without being called transphobes (or ignorant).

The science on virtually everything to do with trans issues is not settled. And it won't be for a generation, because that's how long it takes to do a proper study. A five year outcome is irrelevant when you're talking about people's entire lives.

Except they are, in fact, ignorant. And given trans people have existed for time immemorial, I'm curious what science you're talking about.

Scientists have been studying trans people for at least a hundred years. Not long in the scope of things, sure, but the reason people are upset at the OP and the reason comments like this are frustrating to trans people like me is you can find the answers to all of your questions about trans people with research online. Refusing to learn anything and then getting mad when you don't understand it doesn't make any sense and places the burden of your ignorance on my community when we have already done the work for you several thousand times over.

The fact that there is a literal wealth of knowledge at your fingertips and you refuse to access any of it and then walk around wondering why no one will answer your questions is extremely obtuse, and I'm over it.

NAYRT: Like, I wonder how much of this is specific to internet discourse. The trans people in my circle are used to having loved ones who don't get some of it, or don't get all of it. So we play the delicate dance of gently correcting people we love, finding opportunities to educate people, and picking our battles carefully.

I'm struggling because it's become clear over the last month that I can get tolerance but not respect or support from my parents. So we play the niceness game of not provoking arguments, and almost everyone in my support group is playing the same game with someone they love in their life.

SA: Like, trans people I know can't afford to burn a bridge every time we're disappointed by people around us.

I agree - and I certainly pick and choose my fights in real life based on how much I know I'm going to have to be around the person anyway (work situations, for example) because I know the majority of people who even say they're on my side won't really have my back if I get defensive and go off on somebody.

It really speaks a lot to cis privilege that we're expected to form and dispense these arguments (at least internally, to ourselves) on a daily basis yet cis people (especially anon) still talk to us about gender as if we have no clue what we're talking about. It's like. Just admit you believe all trans people are delusional so I don't waste my time on you.
