I don't feel medicinally transitioning children is okay but I also understand that it can be deeply traumatic to have a body which you see as 'wrong'.

I've been casually following Jazz Jennings story and I just feel so sorry for her.

There's a difference between medically transitioning children and putting puberty on hold before irreversible changes occur so they can be sure.

Potentially stupid and offensive question sorry, don't important changes happen in your brain during puberty as well as physical changes...so does that mean that a child who takes puberty blockers is going to be (mentally) developmentally behind their peers?

AYRT--I don't think so? I mean aside from not being as interested in sex. I don't think stuff like the ability to reason and plan that only fully develops in your 20s is tied to hormonal changes and puberty.

Gah I meant to put NAYRT, dammit.

I don't know if it's based upon the fact that puberty is delayed or upon the specific medication itself (as GnRHas can cause cognitive issues in adults), but there's been a few studies on the effect of puberty blockers used for precocious puberty and the effect on IQ, and they may lead to a drop. This is a short article linking several studies on effects of GnRHas on cognitive function in children and adults https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fpsyg.2017.00044/full#B8 (disclaimer that one of the child studies is very small).

...wait, why do you feel sorry for her? Because she transitioned young? She seems pretty happy and successful to me. Did I miss something here that would explain her evoking feelings of pity or is it just that she's trans and that's bad?

Didn't the surgery essentially fail and she's now in a lot of pain and facing more painful corrective surgeries?

I think the show is a bit exploitative, tbh
