is anyone other than me thinking that rowling is being such an ass because likes publicity and isn't doing as well at writing as she used to?

Nah, I think she truly believes what she’s say, especially considering her history with domestic abuse. It’s easy to get stuck on something and double down. And unfortunately, gender issues are especially prone to this since they’re a combination of personal identity, social identity, and biological stuff everyone wants to play armchair scientist with but maybe twenty scientists actually understand.

The kind of transphobia that Rowling is promoting is endemic among people of her basic demographic profile - upper-middle-class, well-educated, liberal British feminists who work in media or culture. It's really, really, really widespread in the UK. So, no, it's probably not a pose for publicity. It's probably quite sincere and it probably came about for the same reasons as loads of people with a similar social outlook and position ended up in the same ideological bigoted dead end.

I think if anyone under the age of 60 deserves an "Ok Boomer," it's probably Rowling at this point.

SA: And it's not just on her anti-trans/anti-medicalist views. I've yet to see an opinion from her that isn't yet another case a middle-aged liberal getting crotchety that other people are more liberal than she is.

I think that's why she's speaking out so much, but I also think she really believes what she's saying. She's talking about it because she knows her beliefs will get her attention.
