The kind of transphobia that Rowling is promoting is endemic among people of her basic demographic profile - upper-middle-class, well-educated, liberal British feminists who work in media or culture. It's really, really, really widespread in the UK. So, no, it's probably not a pose for publicity. It's probably quite sincere and it probably came about for the same reasons as loads of people with a similar social outlook and position ended up in the same ideological bigoted dead end.

I think if anyone under the age of 60 deserves an "Ok Boomer," it's probably Rowling at this point.

SA: And it's not just on her anti-trans/anti-medicalist views. I've yet to see an opinion from her that isn't yet another case a middle-aged liberal getting crotchety that other people are more liberal than she is.
