Inspired by #3 - What books would you adapt to TV/movies AND heavily edit?

And how would you edit it?

Most of the time if I think a book is bad enough to need to be heavily edited for an adaption I don't actually want an adaption. But I wouldn't mind an edited adaption of the Pern books. Just figure out a way to remove the skeevy from the dragons mating means humans must mate too thing or just take that out altogether. Other than that, at least the first few books I'd love to see adapted. Because dragons mostly.

Amrita by Banana Yoshimoto - I would include more aliens.

I'd make Darren Shan a series on Netflix or HBO. Probably HBO. 10 episodes, a season, a book gets 3 episodes.

That works out perfectly tbh the final episode of S1 would be just as they arrive at Vampire Mountain.

I'd like a version of the Dresden Files that was less sexist

I'd also like it to be gayer, but I'd settle for less sexist

I'd give at least one non-vital organ to see an adaptation of Moby Dick that was exactly as wildly homoerotic as the original, while being much, much less racist.

All lesbian romances would no longer be vague "and they were lifelong companions and close friends who happened to also be roommates and never marry men, the end."

The Grisha Trilogy but with a better ending.

Most of the books with unspokenly compulsory monogamy and love triangles. Make them figure out they're polyamorous and then make a plot out of actual difficulties. Or at least let there be a conversation about why polyamory is not an option for them.

Sad news for everyone who believed all that "He was only pretending to be a Trump fan to get someone acquitted, it was all a cunning plot!" stuff.

True Blood and Vampire Diaries because I love vampires. But those two shows just didn't do it for me.

The new Sabrina the Teenage Witch for Michelle Gomez. I watched season 1, but I hated it too much to continue even though Gomez was in it (and hands down the best part).

Puella Magi Madoka Magica. I prefer my magical girl shows to be hopeful and upbeat.

Random exceptions

[personal profile] philstar22 2020-07-07 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
Do you ever have random exceptions to the things you usually don't like or don't care about but find that there are one or two examples that work for you for some reason?

Rewatching DS9 season 1. I'm usually meh on kids on film. Either they are annoying or I don't care. I don't think I've ever actively liked a tv or movie kid before. But for some reason the kid that plays Molly O'Brien is really adorable to me suddenly? No idea why.
