How are we today?

I found a youtube video called 'The Hamilton Fanfic writer who PRETENDED TO HAVE HIV FOR CLOUT - When Posting Goes Wrong' and my snacks are ready, so I'm pretty happy right now.

Woke up to a sick kitty, so I had to take her to the vet. Looks like she upset her stomach from stressing out about the changes around the house. She seems to be feeling better now from the painkiller and acid-reducer shots she got. Hopefully she'll stay feeling okay. But I spent several hours stressing about her because she looked miserable this morning.

Now just laying in bed with a heating pad and some relaxing music. Took a painkiller myself and have been zoning out and playing candy crush.

I’m a 5G truther now lol. Went down an internet rabbit hole and I’m convinced that the telecom industry is using the same tactics the tobacco industry used to downplay the effects.

One of my coworkers has Covid. 😨 I have had a sore throat for a couple days so I am worried about that. But so far no other symptoms.

Not great. Nothing specific (well, other than the entire planet being a giant disaster) but I'm just feeling...meh. I'm annoyed that the house is such a mess but I have no motivation to clean, I'm hungry but don't feel like cooking, I tried to read a book that I found super interesting just a couple days ago but I couldn't focus, I need to go shopping tomorrow because I'm almost out of groceries (and I don't want to go on the weekend because it's busier and given that a lot of dumbasses around here aren't wearing masks, I want to be around as few people as possible) but the idea of actually being around people at all is just not appealing, and...I don't know. Everything kind of sucks right now.

Eh. Tired.
Monstrous Bebe had two seizures yesterday. She's *never* had seizures before. They did a CATscan, an EKG, took blood and urine and their answer was 'we really don't know, maybe follow up with a neurologist'.

It's super fucking horrifying and scary to hear your child's address being read out over the radio as Comms center calls for an ambulance to roll out.

More and more and more nervous about going into work each day. I've set a 400-a-day rolling average threshold for daily cases, though, for when I march into my boss's office and be like "don't make me choose between my job and my mom's life plz". We're at 290.

I bought Yakuza 0 in the meantime. May as well go dive into the abyss of this franchise.

Inspired by #7 - Cultural Elements You Wish You Saw More of

(Anonymous) 2020-07-09 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Inspired by #7, what are some elements of your culture you wish would make appearances in popular media more often/if at all, because know one knows about it?

I once wrote a fic that involved a lot of blue music (so constant references to the artists - J.B. Lenoir, Ma Rainey, etc.) and one blues song involved a Greek musician, and I mentioned the particular instrument he was using, and a reader thought I might have been Greek. (I'm not) But they were super happy at seeing this in a random SPN fic, lol. But listening to a lot of blues (which isn't born from my own cultural tradition) led me to a bunch of amazing artists and cultural collabs I didn't see coming.
Song in question was Louisiana Red ft Stelios Vamvakris VooDoo Lady

I do wish media showed less of the conservative, gun-loving, death-penalty-loving, independence means never caring for anyone else and forcing your way on top side of Texas and more of the cultural-mixed, Tex-mex, diverse side of Texas that is the part of Texas I've actually come to like.

There is actually a lot of culture mixing and sharing in Texas. It is just that the loudest people and unfortunately the people who have managed to get the power and disenfranchise the rest and keep them from voting are the negative ones.

It may not be the same exact thing, think I'd like to see a wider variety of skin tones for characters from my country. Not everybody's the same shade of brown.

I guess ethnic foods being mentioned where food isn't the focal point of the scene? (I recently wrote a story that had someone eating rohlíky because it was common where I grew up, and then I had to explain what rohlíky is to my beta reader. 😅)

People speaking Gàidhlig (Scottish Gaelic), proper ceilidhs (while the word itself just means 'meeting' a ceilidh is a dancing event with lots of specific dances, many of which involve dancing with half the other dancers. Strip the Willow is a favourite) and adaptations of scottish folk tales.
The only things I remember offhand having a ceilidh like thing in it, aside from Scottish shows, are The Snowman and the original Card Captor Sakura anime.
And on the other hand I'd like to never, ever, see someone claim that we don't have electricity in crofting communities again. I live in a super isolated place where half the population own more sheep than there are people in the village and we don't even have a POST OFFICE but we have electricity and phones and internet. We've had them all my life. (It's a stereotype I see too much.)

Low. Sad. All my tests keep coming back normal but there's clearly something wrong with my immune system. I never used to get sick like this. Plus my illness is disfiguring and painful. For the last decade I've used writing as an escape, and now it's in my hands too. I can't even hold a pen.

(Anonymous) 2020-07-09 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I hope you get some answers and treatment for it.

Have you thought about using dictation and typing your story out later? That way you can get the ideas out and you can have plenty of rest breaks for your hands. I do that or write in shorthand when my hands are bad. There are some speech to text programs, but I haven't tried any yet because knowing my accent everything will be hilariously wrong.

I know it's not the same when you prefer pen and paper, but it's something.
