Talking about how trans men are just a fad kinda seems dismissive to me

Trans men being fetishised in fandom is a fact and doesn't say much about how actual trans men are treated in real life outside of fandom unless you're one of those people who thinks fandom is activism.

I think there's some extent to which trans male characters are fetishized in fandom, but I also think that it's important not to conflate that with trans male identities etc being a fad or illegitimate for people in fandom. And I think that there is an idea that trans male identities in fandom are a fad and aren't legitimate, it's quite widespread.
