The character isn't actually aromantic. She's basically under a spell placed upon her by her own mother to prevent her from falling in love with anyone, in order to save her from a prophesied tragedy.

She's not aromantic because it's a nonsense micro-identity that no one over 15 identifies as.

If you told young Jinmi it would raise her power levels, I could see her merrily giving it a go. And she has a fair amount of sensuality in her innate being (likes her food, wants to see new places).

Dual (hang on, triple? quadruple?) cultivation ftw?

(Anonymous) 2020-07-15 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
Good thinking! I think the show already hinted about this, but I forget what the translation called it. Jin Mi shocks several people by innocently asking about a specific kind of cultivation and from the context and reactions, I assumed that was a sexual euphemism.

"Dual cultivation", yes.

I saw it another Cdrama where it was... not sex, but so flamboyantly intimate that everyone in the area got the hell out of range. And I suspect there might be literal sex involved in other stories.

I’m intrigued just ‘cause you said “demon princess”.

(Anonymous) 2020-07-15 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
The demon princess character is cool and pretty badass! But just so I don't mislead you she's not actually a demon, per se. This show has the universe divided into different kingdoms... Heaven, the Mortal realm, Demon realm, and Floral kingdom.

Ah, got it. Sounds cool. I wanna check this show out. Where’s it available?

(Anonymous) 2020-07-15 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
It's available on Netflix, but I'd be surprised if it wasn't on other streaming sites, too. It's recent, and very popular.

Sweet, thanks!

the more i see secrets about this show the more i am ~intrigued. it shows up on my netflix recommended all the time but i've put off watching it because c-dramas can be LOOOOOONG man(cql and ice fantasy both nearly lost me at points, jesus).

but with the little bits that get shown here i kinda... just want to see what it's about! lol.

(Anonymous) 2020-07-15 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
I haven't seen Ice Fantasy, but this is another one of those dramas that's got pretty cheezy CGI, if that bothers you. But it's kind of funny and I like the heroine.

(Anonymous) 2020-07-15 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
oh trust me, cheesy cgi is no hindrance to my enjoyment of a show at all. in some cases it can make me love it more because it becomes a charming feature. and ngl, the character in this secret is gorgeous so like i've already partly decided to give it a go once i've finished my current show.

(Anonymous) 2020-07-15 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
Well, the Beast of Dreams is goddamn adorable, so that's something to look forward to if you don't mind CGI. I haven't finished watching it yet but so far it's interesting and I want to see how it turns out!

I had quite an astonishing amount of feelings through the last ten episodes.

(Anonymous) 2020-07-15 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
I have a feeling that it's going to be a real rollercoaster, yeah.

(Anonymous) 2020-07-15 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
ugh Ice Fantasy totally lost me just at about the halfway mark. I was so disappointed that the interesting fetchquest storyline was neatly wrapped up after 20 episodes and then the next dozen were about Ka Suo's endless pining for romance...that was when I noped out. I don't give a flying fuck about who ends up with who but I get angry when the best parts of the story are just chucked aside in favor of soap opera romance-angst.

so if any other fantasy c-dramas are anything like that, warn me before I invest an evening into trying to get into another one. I always come for the demons and gods but I'll leave if it goes soap opera.

(Anonymous) 2020-07-15 03:49 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah the fetch-quest bit was genuinely the most interesting and fun part of the show and it was so annoying that they got it over an done with so fast, like that should have been most of the show!

i was quite charmed with ka-suo/li-luo but i agree that the romance angle got dragged out for too long, that and ka-suo's endless amount of unhappiness got to be quite A LOT by the end of the show. i had my fun with it, but it really could have done with being only about 30 eps rather than like the 60 it was.
