I could see that. But at this time Regency fashions weren't actually very uncomfortable. Corsets were more about support than cinching in a tight waist, cotton muslin was fairly common and dresses were fairly light without tons of layers, as you can see.

DA I'd kill for a regency corset, honestly.

AYRT Oh, I didn't mean her clothes were uncomfortable, I meant she was dressing too lightly for the weather.

Autumn de Wilde talked about showing Emma and Knightley getting dressed because the whole rigamarole of it was actually pretty similar for men and women. But one of the deleted scenes from the movie is literally just Emma being dressed by a maid, and even though they stretch it out with rolling on her stockings, her clothes just aren't that complicated. I think the scene was shot with an idea of "look how restrictive womens' clothes were", but her corset is barely cinched and actually seems...supportive? Like a bra. And then there isn't really anything else besides her shift under her dress. No petticoats or crinolines.

My feeling is that the scene was cut mostly for time, but also because it doesn't land the message I think was intended. Yeah it takes her a while to get dressed but it's only because she doesn't just yank on her stockings herself, and for some reason her corset has to be completely laced up while she wears it. (Seriously, you can't loosely pre-thread the lacings before putting on the corset, to save time?) And it doesn't look uncomfortable at all.
