Hers was much more than "misspeaking", though, and that's why it was made fun of. Obama didn't mean to say he had visited 57 states, but Palin did mean to say that she had foreign policy experience based on people on a single Alaskan island being able to see Russia, and who knows what the "head space" shit meant. She was BSing and it wasn't working.

Re: 149

[identity profile] haleysings.livejournal.com 2008-12-12 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
I honestly don't think Obama really has that much experience either. More than Palin, but at least she isn't going to be leading our country.

Re: 149

[identity profile] evil-laugher.livejournal.com 2008-12-12 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
But he said nothing on the same fuck-up-BS level as Palin in that interview... Kind of my point. 57 doesn't really compare.

Re: 149

[identity profile] haleysings.livejournal.com 2008-12-12 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, he's got four years of constant spotlight, give him some time.

Re: 149

[identity profile] evil-laugher.livejournal.com 2008-12-12 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
lol that's the most you can say in response.

Re: 149

[identity profile] haleysings.livejournal.com 2008-12-12 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe because I don't particularly feel the need to debate an election that's already been decided for a month now?

Re: 149

[identity profile] evil-laugher.livejournal.com 2008-12-12 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
Ahahahaha, that's funny. You started off trying to argue something, but don't like it when they disagree back. Once you're cornered out of it, tell the other person to stop trying to debate you! If you don't want a DEBATE, don't go into a public forum and compare Obama's 57 flub to Palin's major fuck-up like they're somehow equal, then continue trying to ARGUE somehow, somehow, that Obama is worse. "but lol remember what Obama said that one time XD" "Uhhh, that doesn't even compare." "But Obama has no foreign policy experience." "Think what you want, but nothing he said was ever that bad." "Oh, but he MIGHT say something as bad."

Re: 149

[identity profile] haleysings.livejournal.com 2008-12-12 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
My original argument wasn't about the election, it was "everyone says stupid things sometimes". It wasn't mean to be a huge political debate about someone who's already won, but if you want to have a stupid argument on a freaking fandom community, then fine.

The only reason I think Obama is any worse is he is in control of the government. Seriously, what does the vice president REALLY do? How would Palin really be able to screw up the country? Does anyone even know what Cheney did? "Oh, well, he shot a guy!"

But right now we have a man with almost no experience in control of the country when we're in the middle of two wars and a financial crisis. Forget Russia, I'm worried about OUR country. How is he seriously going to make everything better? Has he given us a single plan? Has he given us ANYTHING? Has anyone?

Frankly, I didn't like McCain, either. Our choices were horrible this time around. No matter who won, we were screwed. With Obama we're screwed because his idea of "fixing" things is taxing people more and dragging troops out and leaving everything in a mess.

But really, does it matter? No,he's won. You've won. He can do whatever he wants, but excuse me if I'm not worshiping at his altar or daring to say "everyone mispeaks sometimes".

Honestly, I don't know why I even care what you people think. Even if I wanted to spend hours of my day debating, the election already happened. Even if you win the debate, so what? Does it manner?

Re: 149

[identity profile] evil-laugher.livejournal.com 2008-12-12 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
Except what Palin said was much worse than "those stupid things that everyone says sometimes." MUCH worse. This is actually the first time I have ever seen anyone try to legitimately compare the two. Most people at this point have given up on pretending that Palin wasn't a joke.

I don't care what you thing about Obama. I didn't ask you. I don't care what you think about any of the candidates. The problem is you trying to act innocent and go, "Tee hee hee, but didn't Obama say that one thing?" like it's at all comparable, STILL trying to spin it a month after it's over, then whine when someone disagrees with you. "omgggg stop debating with me T_T" The sad intent to spin is pretty damn obvious when your immediate response to being corrected is to whine about Obama, when it wasn't even relevant. You can't even whine about what he HAS said, so you whine about what he MIGHT say? Seriously? But omgggg stop arguing with me! I'm so innocent! My original comment was just to clear up any misconception of what Obama had meant, and YOU started arguing in response.

If the McCain/Palin won, the obvious problem was McCain's age and past health problems, so she very well could become President. Yes, the Vice President actually has a point in being there!

Does anyone even know what Cheney did?
OMG seriously?! People hate Cheney more than the President, he even has a lower popularity rate, because of the sketchy, very real things he has done besides shooting a friend in the face. Palin actually said she wanted the same degree of power Cheney has, and that terrified people. Congress is also going to make it so that Biden has less power among them than Cheney had forced through. I'm getting the impression that YOU don't know what Cheney has done.

Re: 149

[identity profile] haleysings.livejournal.com 2008-12-12 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
I wasn't really being serious--I was just joking that at least I knew some of the quips. I wasn't trying to spin anything. Palin is stupid, sure.

That's all I'm going to say now.

Congress is also going to make it so that Biden has less power among them than Cheney had forced through

what are you talking about? what exactly is it that you think Congress is going to do?

and what has Cheney "forced through"?

They're working to not let him into the Democrat meetings, something like that. Uhh, this is not something "I think" they are going to do. This was in the news.

what are "Democrat meetings"? lol, is that why people froth at the mouth if someone mentions Cheney? he went to "Democrat meetings"?

This was in the news.

i don't believe you.

Please allow anonymous to help clarify why you look a bit silly in this argument.

Palin said that she had foreign policy experience because Alaska was near Russia. The quote has been cited on other pages of this post. It happened, and it's what Tina Fey's Palin personality was based on with that quote.

Yes, Obama misspoke. We acknowledge that. Palin's "hiccup" was much greater than a misspoken word, however. Palin said she had foreign policy experience by virtue of proximity.

If Obama, in an interview, had said, "Well, as a member of the Senate, I've worked with senators from all over the United States, and that's kind of like being a president," then that would be on the same level as Palin's quote. However, he didn't. And your response to anyone bringing up this quote is to say WELL OBAMA HAS NO EXPERIENCE! Can you please clarify how that's relevant to the argument at hand? No one was arguing about his experience. They were talking about bad quotes and how Palin's was much, much worse than any slip-ups Obama might have made.

By the way, yes, Obama has given us an outline of a plan that would create 2.5 million jobs, very similar to the way the New Deal did during the depression. Whether you think it'll work is beside the point, because your question was "Has he given us a single plan?" and the answer is "He's given multiple, actually, I'm sorry you weren't paying attention."

I'm not trying to debate either; I'm just hoping to make it clear why you're not exactly making yourself look great in this case. For future reference.

Re: 149

[identity profile] bullet4fob.livejournal.com 2008-12-12 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
If Obama, in an interview, had said, "Well, as a member of the Senate, I've worked with senators from all over the United States, and that's kind of like being a president,"

Obama said something virtually identical to this in an interview. he said that the experience of running a campaign is the equlivalent of having executive experience. this is during the time when the campaign was desperate to prove that Obama was more qualified than Palin even though he was a rookie Senator and she was a governor.

here is the clip : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vxUCfdfRnP8

he sounds like a complete idiot in this clip.

1. i run a campaign, that proves i can be president!!!!!!!!

2. he forgets that Palin has moved up to governor and is no longer the mayor of Wasilla. this is particularly embarrassing because Anderson Cooper just reminded him.

3. and he totally mispronounces Wasilla.

Re: 149

(Anonymous) 2008-12-12 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
Then why didn't the op of this thread bring that up instead of LOL 57 STATES THAT IS SO DUMB

?

I'd mispronounce Wasilla, too. I don't see how that matters. And frankly, being a governor doesn't make you any more experienced than being a senator. There have been plenty of great presidents that were legislators in the House or Senate, not governors.

I'll admit that was a silly thing for Obama to say, but you're relating it to things that don't matter much at all in the long run. Sorry.

Re: 149

[identity profile] bullet4fob.livejournal.com 2008-12-12 03:06 am (UTC)(link)

i can't speak for the op of this thread.

well, i've learned from media coverage of President Bush and Governor Palin that if someone mispronounces a single word or if his or her pronunciation is the less common form than he or she is useless moron and nobody should ever pay attention to anything he or she ever says. Biden mispronounced a word and thus he too is a useless moron.

And frankly, being a governor doesn't make you any more experienced than being a senator.

frankly, being a governor gives a person executive experience which a senator does not have. senator don't run things. senators aren't decision makers. senators don't stand alone and bear the full weight of success or failure.

There have been plenty of great presidents that were legislators in the House or Senate, not governors.

like who?

but you're relating it to things that don't matter much at all in the long run.

i have no idea what this sentence means. sorry.

like who?

Does the name "Abraham Lincoln" ring a bell? Maybe John F. Kennedy? Oh wait, you're Republican, you probably hate Kennedy. Truman? Gerald Ford?

Oh, how about Bush Sr.? I didn't like him much, but maybe you did. He was a Representative when he was elected.

Re: 149

[identity profile] bullet4fob.livejournal.com 2008-12-12 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
Bush Sr. and Truman and Ford all ascended to the presidency through the vice-presidential spot.

My comments have nothing to do with Obama's winning. Maybe you should stop being a little bitch about losing.

Re: 149

[identity profile] velvet-mace.livejournal.com 2008-12-12 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
I think the real problem wasn't lack of experience but lack of interest in ever gaining that experience. That's what hit me over the head again and again. Obama really hungers for information and liked to surround himself with smart people who could keep him informed and challenged, but Palin comes from the POV that she already knows everything she needs to and really isn't all that curious to find out more. She didn't value her advisers or education.

The idea of governing based on faith rather than perception scared the hell out of me. It's like driving at night with the headlights off because you're sure you know where you are and you are convinced you are a "great driver".

Re: 149
