RE, 150 May I ask when you've Ianto possessive/whiny? Not trying to spark wank here, just curious.

I'll even take Cyberwoman and Adam off the table. Putting those whine-fests aside as somehow justified by the situations.

Hmmm. GBG and CJH I'll give you. I kinda take Countrycide as him being all "way to be tasteful and considerate, guys" *finger*. Not necessarily justifiable, can't say I blame him.

As for the rest...
KKBB/TTLM - I see that more as wanting to know where the relationship's going, if indeed Jack considers there to still *be* a reltionship. As far as KKBB goes I thought Gwen, God love her, came off as being more possessive towards Jack, which made less sense to me.

Reset - similar reactions from Gwen until she figures out Jack/Martha ain't canon (T_T). Again, this makes less sense to me, though later on they're both great friends with her.

Something borrowed - I really don't see your point here, other than him breaking up Jack/Gwen.

My girlfriend tells me that FOOTR was originally going to be Gwen's episode and they just Ianto gave a load of her lines? So there would still have been whinage. Just would've been Gwen's.

TL,DR; None of this strikes me as being particularly whiny/possessive, but whatever. You say to-may-to, I say tom-ah-to (or the other way around. Whichever fits)

ETA; My girlfriend walked in while I was typing this and, when she was done mocking me for looking at F!S at 4am, asked that I remind whoever I'm replying too that TTLM was about *Tosh* and that in all the J/I and anti-J/I people seem to overlook that.

Er, yeah. Sorry. I'm extremely henpecked. (It *totally* pays off, though!)

I would be very much had liked to see FOOTR with Gwen as it was originally supposed to be filmed because it's also an episode that a lot of JI-ers use to show how "close" they are and how much Jack "relies" on Ianto.

If they'd scheduled it so Eve could have done both Adrift and FOOTR, and Gwen had those scenes with Jack instead of Ianto, there'd be considerably less evidence for the so-called relationship and more of a delination that Gwen is the one he relies on professionally and emotionally, whereas Ianto is what I generally abbreviate as B.U.F.T.

The scheduling issue muddies those waters considerably for those who need to believe in schmoopy-oopy J/I.

Although I also maintain that the ending of Exit Wounds and the Jack/Gwen/Ianto scenes of The Stolen Earth make it clear that J/I/G is the way going forward.

It would be interesting to see as an alternate cut. This said I'd prefer it stayed Ianto-centric, if only because the next episode "Adrift" is pretty Gwen-heavy and while I kinda like her (or at least don't hate her with the fire of a thousand suns) I find her very wearing to watch. Watching the series for the first time I gave up halfway through episode five (this said, the girlfriend forced me to watch CJH. And I'm thankful!) and caught up with the rest when we got the boxset.

From what I recall he relies on them all emotionally and professionally at some point. Well, except maybe Owen emotionally - more of that could have been interesting to see. I think the show tries to sell the idea that he relies on Gwen more than the rest, but I can't really buy that.

One of the reasons I prefer the second series over the first is because it has a much more ensemble feel to it. I don't think I'm going to bother with series three. They've lost their two best actors and I've never been particularly interested in the Gwen/Jack/Ianto dynamic.

Whether they "need to believe" or not, why do you care so much? If some people get off to different things than you, or interpret things differently, what different does it make in your life?

I wish I knew.

Mostly because I love the Captain Jack we were originally given in Dr Who. I believe to my soul that is STILL Jack. Omni-sexual, polyamorous, in love with the Doctor. The idea that ANY relationship in his current situation is bigger or better than that is deeply offensive to me, whether it's supposed to be Ianto or Gwen, and the schmoopy-ooopy twu-wuv J/I crowd are SO intent on wiping out the Omni/Poly part of Jack's characterizatin in the name of supporting their so-called canon slash pairing, that I feel the need to fight the good, if losing, fight.

Ianto IS whiny and possessive. Jack came back for all of them and wants Gwen (and probably Owen and Tosh) AS much or more than he wants Ianto.

And because I just remembered it (and somehow cannot leave this alone) let's throw in Ianto's totally pissy attitude about Jack meeting a soldier in a bar.

The point of the secret was that the poster felt Ianto could take care of himself and was ok with Jack being Jack. I'm saying it has NEVER been depicted that way. Once the Lisa issue was off the table, the "relationship" always implies that Ianto WANTS Jack to be exactly what he isn't and is a WLB on the topic.
