But also, which are your favorite het pairings with this sort of character? And I'm talking from the kind of romance novel you'd never let anyone (but me, right now, because now you're not alone)know that you read, to characters with this type of persona but then there's development. Books, movies, shows, manga, anime, the whole gamut.

Darken Rahl/Kahlan Amnell, Darken Rahl/Cara Mason, and Darken Rahl/Nicci from Legend of the Seeker. Rahl had chemistry with everyone. I don't do incest, so Richard was out. but I shipped him with everyone else. Actually, I think I ship every non-incest pairing in that fandom, except poor Zedd. Everyone except Zedd was smoking hot, and everyone had chemistry with everyone.

Master/female!Doctor.

Angelus/Buffy. Spike/Drusilla. Angelus/Darla.

Dukat/Kira. I know, I know. I can't help it.

Don't know if Zuko counts since he actually got a redemption arc, but Zuko/Mai.
