I mean, it's not like it's a random coincidence that so many stories only lack an ending. It's because for most people that's the hardest part, or the part they suddenly realized they hadn't plotted well enough/had accidentally veered away from their intended plot.

It's not something writers are "doing to" their readers. Some things in the universe do not actually revolve around you.
