I suppose there are writers out there that have stopped posting out of spite, but those are probably few and far between. Most writers who have not finished a long, almost-finished WIP have likely been stopped by something - loss of inspiration, mental health issues, offline issues, etc.

I never post WIPs (just because it would make me anxious, which means I have a ton of partially-written fic on my computer), but I don't mind reading them, even if they never get finished. I do tend to read a WIP with a slightly different mindset, so I do get annoyed if something is marked complete when it isn't and I don't find out until I get to the 'end'. The only WIPs that usually irritate me are the ones that don't even really get started.
