Got drunk last night, been sweating off the hangover all day. Probably order some takeout and watch some bad movies tonight. Usual Friday stuff.

Went for my mammogram/sonogram and found out that I most likely have a 3 mm benign cyst in one of my breasts. They want me to do a follow-up in six months. So now I have to sit and fret and worry that it's going to turn into cancer one day because YOU KNOW ME.

I took yesterday and today off as one of my coworkers was coming back from vacation and I am PARANOID. While where she went has waaaaaaaaaay less cases than us, I don't trust airplane passengers or potentially packed customs areas. It's been nice... I need to take days off more often.

Melodrama time. Found out there's literally nothing so horrendous and shocking that someone can do, that I can't easily compartmentalise it and deal with them in a detached professional manner. Always wondered if there was a line. Turns out there's not.

Listening to music, relaxing, still working on getting rid of this headache. Made an appointment for my car for tomorrow because I've got an oil leak. Played with my cat for a long time this morning because she was full of energy and adorable.

I've been feeling off all day, and it doesn't feel like Friday. Not that there's really much difference between days now, but I still felt like something was different about Fridays/weekends. I think maybe because I'd gotten into a bit of a routine going grocery shopping on Fridays for awhile and didn't today, I don't know.

Anyway, I've just been hanging around the house. Did a bit of cleaning, read a bunch (I have less than 50 pages left in one of my current books so I want to finish it tonight), watched a bunch of Kitboga, and for the last little bit have been going through and organizing/cleaning up my computer bookmarks. There are a couple secrets I want to make tonight, and I'm debating making cookies or brownies or something since I haven't had anything dessert-ish in awhile.

So fucking glad it's Friday. This has been a weird, long, weirdly exhausting week and I'm glad it's over.

I plan on doing as little as possible this weekend, beyond some cleaning.

The comment on the first secret makes me want to know.

Do you like the first or second half of Hamilton more? Why?

Second Half. The first half is fun, but I enjoy the growing sense of dread and the way things go off the rails in the second act. I like Jefferson and Madison more than the Revolutionary War buddies. I think "The Room Where It Happens" and "It's Quiet Uptown" are two of the strongest songs in the show. (I also cried more than I thought I would watching "Burn" and the "Stay Alive (Reprise)".)

The first half is bouncy and fun and about likable characters (or straightforward and excellent villains, like Burr, and Miranda is good at that. And musically, it's pretty much all bangers. The second half is about Hamilton's flaws and I think it gets frankly pretty maudlin and annoying. It has moments - Burr's still great, Jefferson's good, cabinet battles are good, Burn is good - but I just find the Hamilton family stuff and the Maria Reynolds stuff interminable.

And I think the historiography also gets more complicated, there's more and more complicated stuff to fit in, in comparison to the relative dramatic simplicity of the story of the revolution, and it suffers for that.

second half songs are much better save satisfied and wait for it and characterization is muuuuuuch better (laurens and mulligan are just badly drawn), but plot and stakes is better first half (I find the transition between cabinet battle 2 to the reynold pamplet particularly muddled, and burn to blow us all away particularly abrupt) and there's significantly more angelica.

I like the first half more. I'm just too much of a squishy-hearted sentimentalist for all the pain in the second half.
