Stuff violating copyright law (i. e. fanfic and fanart) is explicitly against Patreon's TOS, and from the sound of the secret, they've started a stricter enforcement of that rule.

DA - Oooh! I recently stumbled across a longfic for which the author kept "bonus" chapters, the events of which were referenced in the main fic to get people to want to read them, behind a paywall on patreon. The author said they needed the money. And they did - they wanted to buy a house, and every little bit helped! They have since bought their house, and yet they are still taking people's money. As someone who will likely never be able to afford anything but rent, and cheap rent, I am bitter and petty and hope their little business profiting from other people's intellectual property comes crashing down.

As someone said on tumblr: An archive that allows fic-for-pay is an archive where the first five chapters are up for free and the rest are behind a paywall.

I don't much care about any money Disney could potentially miss out on because someone paid for fanfic rather than stream the films or whatever. But not all original creators are quasi-monopolies, and using fandom as a source of income - be it from fic or art or merchandise - does not sit right with me.
