Re: Musical fans...
(Anonymous) 2020-07-27 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)I love the Eliot poems. I love musicals in general. Blending the two just has never ever worked for me and I cannot comprehend its popularity.
Good: On the Town
Great songs, fun characters, zany plot, all 'round good fun, and a collapsing dinosaur. What's not to like?
Re: Musical fans...
(Anonymous) 2020-07-27 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)But as a musical, it's definitely an acquired taste.
Re: Musical fans...
(Anonymous) 2020-07-27 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)um... "Come Up to My Place", the musical number where a cabbie sexually harasses a passenger and tries to coerce them into sex?
Re: Musical fans...
(Anonymous) 2020-07-28 12:18 am (UTC)(link)It's dated, sure, but having her take the "male" role in the situation doesn't seem quite to the level of "sexual harassment" to me - at least, it's no worse than Gaby pursuing Ivy by stalking her throughout NY just because he thought her picture was hot. Compared to a lot of male to female "courting" behaviours shown in romantic comedies and musicals, repeating an invite until he gives in to her in a comedic song ... I'd personally give it a pass.
What shouldn't get a pass is the treatment of Lucy. She's totally used by Hildy, and treated as a complete joke by the rest of the characters.
