I don't think connection to gender is something that people inherently have so much that your gender identity is so tied to its recognition. It's important to a lot of folks because of either they know they are being socially transgressive, and so the lack of recognition is an insult, or it's really important to them that they are not seen as socially transgressive in any way. Caring or not caring may be a sign, but it's not necessarily one.

Whether it's a privilege? I mean not for women.
