104. Well, whether or not they're a hypocrite depends more on why they don't like Twilight, no? But I think you're missing the point: Time Traveler's Wife is applauded not for its mediocre writing or disturbing gender relations, but because the central concept is fascinating science fiction, and Twilight isn't a tenth as interesting. (Disclaimer: I agree with you about the message of TTW, and don't really like it. I also doubt that as many people have read it as have said they have).

157. What race do you think he is? I mean, he is a cartoon, not an actual person, and just going off his skin color, he could be white or east asian.

Not only that but he's a cartoon set in a DIFFERENT WORLD. Sure, most of it's based on asian culture but the idea of "Asia" doesn't exist there. There IS no Asia :3

So therefore we should ignore Asia's existence and it's similarities to anything in the series. Who the fuck cares if the characters actually look like they should, huh? Oh and that also means it's totally okay if they do away with any Asian themed costuming, architecture and fighting styles. Because Asia doesn't exist!

In the world of Avatar, no, Asia doesn't exist. And neither does Europe, or Africa, or the Americas. Or Mars. (Moreover, it's pretty clearly Asian inspired, but through a western lens, and not even inspired by the cultures of (eastern) Asia so much as its media.)

Uh, I know nothing about Avatar, and a glance at wiki reveals it's clearly inspired by Asian film and anime. But just looking at the picture in the secret, the character doesn't scream "asian", and could be a fair skinned member of a few races.

And are you just making a general point that the Avatar world can't literally be our Asia or making a comment about the casting white?

TTTW was written by an author who knows nothing about science fiction, by her own admission. It's not at all original idea, and the emphasis is far more on the romance between characters I found very dislikable than on the concept, anyway.

Well, since he's clearly based on a Buddhist monk and is called "Aang", I'd say Asian.

I stand corrected; I've never seen the show and was just going off the picture.

Looking at the show, Aang's culture and people are pretty much Tibet, so Tibetan. The clothing that he wears is a pretty dead give away to that. Just because he is not drawn in a STEREOTYPICAL way does not mean that he is white.
