I should just ban myself from looking at this comm anymore because every time I see a Hetalia secret it's either someone's bitchy generalizations that only stupid weeaboo yaoi fangirls like Hetalia irritate me, or some ignorant fucktard making me ashamed that I'm sharing a fandom with them.

Seriously though, WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK AT THOSE REQUESTS. I'm a Hetalia fan, but I'd still judge these anons as much as the OP does. They're the reason people seem to hate our fandom passionately despite the fact that historical parodies do sometimes have fans, it's just that this one is the first one that's ANIMU and has fandom on the INTARWEBS OHNOES!

Hell, I hate most of my own fandom because they're fucking idiots and attention whores. I'm the first to admit that Hetalia is politically incorrect and if people don't want to like it, then whatever, but for fuck's sake. This is just adding to the wank and bad reputation that fandom already has and now more people are going to start thinking Hetalia supports Nazis and mass murder in chibi bishonen form etc. Clearly because there's at least a handful of disgusting people out of the 5 zillion people now in fandom, that makes us all horrible people who think using bishonen rape as metaphors for war is cool and fun. CLEARLY.

Basically my point is that I'm not denying those anons are scum but I feel incredibly offended because the OP is choosing the very worst to "judge" a fandom that's also full of really awesome people who can appreciate historical parody in other ways without veering into the realms of massacre, bombs and rape. There are sick, disgusting people in every fandom but that doesn't exactly justify saying that everyone who likes such-and-such series is a grossly, irrevocably politically incorrect dickwad because you saw some people who were like that in an anon thread. Pearl Harbor and the Rape of Nanking and Nazis, what the christ? I already probably wouldn't like it just because I don't like kink memes in general, but now that I know those types of requests are out there I'm pretty much sure I'll never touch the Hetalia kink meme with a 40-foot-pole.

Most of the people I notice on the comm are idiots that make me facepalm, like that one girl who complained about the mods, or that other person who asked how to do an LJ-cut and absolutely nothing else. I only see about one post for every 50 or so that I actually find worth reading.

edit; That being said, there's very little wank in the comm itself. I just get easily annoyed by people who don't read rules or who post multiple times a week, which I find almost EVERY DAY when I'm reading. They're trifling compared to the kink meme people though.

But I don't think they should be fucking idiots for that though. Yeah, there will be people who are new and don't know what to do (and it's not like LJ is the most user friendly site on the internet), or people who complain about the mods often either. And there's nothing wrong with people who like to post multiple times in a week (more than two times a day might be a problem though).

And believe it or not, those request don't mean everyone is into that kind of stuff or tolerate it either.

Maybe I'm just extra angry/have a low tolerance because I don't tend to like fandom comms in general, and I feel like a majority of the people who are currently posting a lot in fandom kind of scared away the people I used to enjoy seeing post several months ago.

And my original point was that not everyone is into that kind of thing nor do most of us condone it, so we agree there at least? :'D

I agree... I'm new to the fandom, but I never took it seriously. It was mostly for a laugh, especially since my college expects me to be politically aware etc. I have never posted anything of it, and I don't really socialize with the rest of the fans... but I'll underline that, from what I observed so far, I don't think these people take Hetalia to the T. I mean, I hope they don't. Personally I could probably read those prompts without flinching simply because I could not picture them graphically. I still find the slashing countries... abstract, no matter the bishounen representations. And, as a rapidly warming Hetalia fan, I hope those people who wrote those prompts do, too. o_O

I'm just tired of feeling like I have to defend myself every time someone points out the weird shit that people do and then you get 5 billion more people who visit F!S automatically thinking that Hetalia is evil and the fangirls are all creepy weirdos. I like some pairings in that series, but not in the rape-y/everything-must-be-sex way that some people seem to be into...

This. I tried to explain why I didn't outright condemn that particular fic earlier, but you basically summed it up. It's not meant to be sexy or supportive; it's supposed to fuck you up mentally and spit you out and there are plenty of fics in other fandoms that do that, but not half as well.

I can't speak for the other fics, as I didn't read them, but I will stick up for the Rape of Nanking one.
