Problem is, you know the origins of your name, but others don't (before they ask or before they look to where you might have told). Were they to see 'Shadowcat,' the first thing that pops into their mind might not be your pet. They might not even know that you HAVE/HAD a pet, let alone a cat.

The first thing that popped into my mind when I read that 'shadsie' was short for 'Shadowcat' was the X-Men character. You might not be in X-Men fandom. You might not even know what the X-Men are! So fandom names aren't necessarily silly, because a) they might not be fandom names at all, as in your case, and b) who cares if they're out of place? They demonstrate that someone really likes something enough to be identified with it.

People have mistook my name for the X-Men "Shadowcat" before - and it has always annoyed me, but the name's still stuck. Most people I meet don't seem to be X-Men fans and don't make that mistake, so whatever.

I merely gave an opinion - I'm agreeing with the OP on this at all - I don't actively disrespect people with fandom names, I just think they're a little silly, but in a cute way.

I hope you weren't trying to start a confrontation with me because, right now, I am in just no mood.

Nope, wasn't trying to start a confrontation at all, but I was trying to point out how any given name can be misconstrued by someone who doesn't know you/your fandoms/etc.
