I think even worse is attempting to turn a modern, English name into something 'old' or 'other'. So many horrible variations on 'Jensen'......

I think I actually hate it more when a writer tries to - shit, I don't know how to say it - un-modernise? a name, but the name is already one that's been around forever, so they just make nonsense. Like making 'Harry' into 'Harrius' or something, when 'Harry' is a variant of 'Henry' and that's been a name for like 15 centuries or so, so the actual latinate form would be 'Henricus'.

...I have way too many feelings about this.

ooh yes it makes me cringe.

eta: although strictly speaking that wouldn't be a good name, that's absolutely not the latinate name or a latinate name at all its franco-german, you would just pick julius or publius, and let henricus be weirdo gens or even better a cognomen he got from defeating the goths or vikings or "germans" or some odd gauls if you absolutely must, there's really only like 10 latin first names......

Jensen is really a surname (son of Jen?) someone decided to use as a first name. In theory, it's probably older than it seems, so depending on when/where the story is set, you wouldn't have to change it.

Close! It's "son of Jens"

It is, yes, in Scandinavia. 'Son of Jens'. Still doesn't sound/work right in a lot of instances.
