I also adore this series but several elements definitely needed refining. The book series - which is only semi canon related to the movies - at least paints this with additional nuance.

This sentiment has been aired before about The Untamed, and I kind of feel like it's hair splitting at best. Judging by the behind-the-scenes material, the directors, writers, actors, etc. seemed very aware they were filming a gay love story, even if it doesn't come across as gay enough for some viewers. I think there's plenty of deliberate plausible deniability in there for the censors.

To me, that doesn't make it not-gay.

I love/hate this, too, OP! You could also have different acting choices based on the era or movie from which you pulled that actor. Like is this going to be "Raising Arizona", "Leaving Las Vegas", or "Face-Off" Nicolas Cage?

The sci-fi/fantasy comic Finder had a related idea, where actors make use of virtual models so they don't have to shoot live in front of a camera and always look exactly to specifications, or simply rent out their virtual image for contract use, but someone else is acting. But the tech also meant that with enough pics of a random person, their virtual image could be rendered without their knowledge, and that image sold to sleazier film industries...
