New Media

Have you picked up any new fandoms lately?

I haven't watched anything new yet other than Penny Dreadful: City of Angels, but I'm thinking of giving Warrior Nuns a try. I did give the pilot of Cursed a try, but I really didn't like it, so I didn't watch further.

I vaguely keep up with Amphibia (I watched the first season and apparently Season 2 started last month), but I like The Owl House much more.

I recently watched the latest Swamp Thing and liked it, but there doesn't seem to be much of a fandom.

I recently started watching Aggretsuko, which I love.

I started watching the latest season of SHEILD. The Noir episode was awesome.

Honestly I'm really going to miss Agents of Shield. It's wildly uneven but frequently entertaining, which basically makes it the perfect tie in show for the MCU.

My ex-gf got me listening to Dice Funk and I literally dreamed a cool af premise for an angsty fanfic for it. A premise that makes me wish I could find transcripts, because I'd need to take canon scenes and make sometimes minute changes to them. A lot. Finding the right scene in the right ep and listening to it again and again seems like too much effort considering how many scenes I will have to do this to.

Also I haven't found a single fanfic so far I'd be interested in reading... though maybe I will once I get further in canon.

About to turn my phone off and sleep. Spent the evening grinding out more Apex Legends battle pass levels.

Good night!

I slept an hour or two last night, not consecutively. So I had two big mugs of coffee today because I had a lot of work to get done, and they haven't completely worn off yet. Feeling antsy and weird and can't sleep yet even though I've taken my sleep meds.

Know the feeling! Here's hoping for a good nights rest!

Took today off; I needed a mental health day after dealing with sick and dead crows for almost a week now.

It's not my job or anything, but I like crows and seeing them suffer and die and not knowing what's wrong or how to help and having to bag up the poor dead ones and put them in the dumpster is really getting me down.

We have a fake pond and stream on our patio at work and for the last week crows have been dropping dead in and around it. Other birds come for water and are fine so it's probably not something in the water. It could be West Nile, or someone leaving poisoned food out for crows, or crows eating poisoned food/bait left for something else.

I called and emailed the local wildlife rescue, but the sick ones can still fly so they can't catch them, and the dead ones are beyond help. The county health guys that liaise with the state CDC took one corpse for testing, but the ones from yesterday had probably been dead all weekend and couldn't be tested.

I know with COVID and everything being freaked out and sad because of dead crows is kind of stupid. I am gonna bring some boiled eggs to feed any healthy ones tomorrow anyway.

I spent the morning doing yard work, figuring out the layout for raised beds. I did a pile of dishes, prepped some lunch for work tomorrow, put my new screen door in, and napped. Gonna take a shower and go to bed.

I feel a bit better, but I hope no one has to bag up any more dead birds tomorrow. I would feel better if we could get a live one to the wildlife rehab folks and see if they can figure out what's going on/how to help.

Oh, I'm sorry, anon, that's just awful. :(

oh, that's sad. I like crows too. They're smart birds and they have a lot of character. I used to know somebody who had a pet one he literally raised from an egg.

(Anonymous) 2020-08-12 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
I know it's hard but you're doing a good thing. mass die-offs of wildlife is very important to track and hopefully prevent, if they can. but if it's West Nile, well...god, we don't need a second pandemic breaking out right about now.

chin up, you have a good heart and good mind.

(Anonymous) 2020-08-12 09:28 am (UTC)(link)
Crows are scavengers, and I apologies if I'm being too forward, but I image it might just be them eating too much garbage/plastics. Similar to seagulls, (who have turned to rats in place of tourist/unattended food) the lack of populous (aka leftovers/litter) they may just be relying on an unfortunate (possibly poisonous) source of nourishment.

It might sound cruel but I'd advise you not to feed the crows. As scavengers they will learn from previous mistakes. They'll eat anything, but they're smart. They don't need your help, and aiding their population is actually harmful to most other species of birds as they'll often prey on their eggs, and offspring.

HOLY SHIT! I could not believe it! Nine minutes left too! I felt so bad for the Columbus players afterwards since they had to sit thorough such a stupid interview exhausted as fuck, as the losing team, and having to deal with stupid-ass questions like "How do you feel after so many rounds, must feel good to break a record, hey?"

Like, yeah- must be a surprise to you, but things are kinda shitty at the moment, after all we lost after over five hours of continuous play. Can I go to bed now??

Props to TB though, it was anyones game from the beginning let alone the fifth fucking overtime! My teams always been Toronto though, so even this can't beat their three goal's in the last three mins + overtime win from the other day~!

Doing alright, was volunteering at the library today (its only open to the public in a limited space three times a week and the rest of the week, like today, is spent sorting/shelving/finding books and other stuff around the library) - and because it's been so hot here we had to leave all the doors and windows open to get some air in. We put up signs that we weren't opened today, but one guy came in wanting to use the computers. The manager explained that because of the virus we can't let the public use them until we get the official ok to allow it in the future. So the guy got angry, took off his shirt and ranted about how he needed to use the computer to check his e-mails.

Everyone was quiet like ._. and the managers said "...the answer is still no, please can you leave."

So the guy ranted some more but pretty much left about a minute later. And that was the most eventful part of my day.

Any odd stories you want to tell?

Brought to you by:

After coming across a Waffle House fic based on a r/relationship advice post, I have not stopped thinking about the possibilities my chosen OTP would have surrounding it. Like I'm thinking 200,000+ words amount of garbage. Every interpretation included.
Worst part is- I don't actually know how to write shit, so I'm left with a migraine of potential with no place left to put it...

No harm in trying anon! Just have a stab at it?

I have a long fic i'be been writing for over a decade. It's mutated three times and i'm still nowhere near finishing it. I think it's because I can't find a happy ending for them and I have no one to talk it over with.

Write it! And then when you're done you can write it again as a better writer than you were before! Or write something else with the skills you got from writing that!
Even skilled writers will usually do a rough 'first draft' and then polish it with subsequent drafts so, like, you can combine your learning to write process with the polishing process.

Ah, Waffle House. There aren't any remotely near me, but occasionally my job takes me south of the IHOP-Waffle House Line and I stop at one... to remind myself why I don't really mind that there aren't any near me! I'm not fond of IHOP either. Village Inn is where it's at. Too bad there isn't one of those within 150 of miles of me.

Sorry, that's all I have to add! Um, I think you should write your long Waffle House OTP garbage fic anyway! :)
