I... don't think it'd work that way for me? Because it's not the only book I've ever read. Even if I don't have them physically with me, I've read hundreds of books, watched bunches of TV and movies. More than enough material to daydream about and write fanfiction about without limiting myself to one (possibly crappy) piece of media.

This. I make up stories in my head all the time anyway. If I were stuck in a bottle or whatever for 10 years, that's what I'd spend my time doing.

Yeah. I don't need a book or current access to media to do it, either. Don't get me wrong, I'd still be bored and missing books and other media if I were trapped somewhere without access to a library, but I don't really understand the scenario OP is describing because I don't think it'd work that way for... well, anyone who's already semi-active in any other kind of media.
