Asking to describe Beastars without using the word "animals" is a bit like asking to describe Harry Potter without the word "magic". Everything in the story revolves around the fact they are animals living in a society. There's themes of stereotyping, with many characters resenting how the world sees them because of their respective species, but at the same time, those stereotypes aren't always unfounded. Legosi is a meek wolf, but he is a wolf nonetheless, and his interest in Haru is legitimately dangerous, even if doesn't WANT to harm her. Unlike Zootopia, the predator-prey thing isn't an allegory for racism, but an actual fact of life for the animal people.

All that said, I'm not here to tell you to give it another shot. Life's too short to try to force yourself to like shows just because other people do.
