Actually, I thought I remembered learning in class that drawings, as long as they are not drawn from an actual human model (aka someone posing naked), cannot legally be considered "pornography." Photographs, yes; drawings, no. At least in America. I think?

Someone please please tell me if I'm remembering right or wrong. D:

LOL legal system indeed! I've heard some of the strangest and most messed up stuff coming out of the Australia legal system, seriously. I don't even know. I'm sure it's not all that weird but the most wtf things I've ever heard were like. FIRMLY CENTERED THERE.

But yeah that secret just seems so full of OVER THE TOP HATE that I think it's either a)Trolling or b)making fun of other secrets that sound like less batshit versions of this, or c)both. XD;

Sorry to barge in on the conversation but...Australian here and...yes, indeed, that was the case. The guy had pics of Bart, Lisa and Maggie involved in 'sexual acts'- he was convicted, then appealed, and the conviction was upheld after the judge ruled that 'they were people too'.

We have an interesting legal system.

Nice over simplification there.

Sexual imagery is not always pornography. By your (very basic) logic, this would mean that every book which contains a sex scene, no matter how contextual, or infers that characters have sex is a work of pornography or contains pornography.

In addition to this, 'under the age of eighteen' does not equal 'child'- the term you're looking for is 'age of consent'. Age of consent is not set, worldwide, at eighteen. It varies between countries, at times between states/territories as well as on the basis of gender and also, at times, sexuality. Therefore while you, for instance, might live in a country in which eighteen is the age of consent, a person reading a fanfic- for example- in a country where the age of consent is sixteen would not perceive work involving characters of that age as 'child pornography.

And putting these two little theories of yours together, would seem to imply that every work featuring a teenager having sexual thoughts, or comitting sexual acts is a work of child pornography. This is absurd. Plenty of YA novels feature (non-descriptive) sex scenes, novels exist in which a young character might be raped/sexually abused in the context of the novel- not as a source of titillation but as part of a characters backstory, or in order to address a particular situation or, heaven forbid, actually handle the topic of teenage sexuality with something approaching maturity.
