I know how you feel. A lot of white people in fandom treat poc like we're their personal Magical Negroes, here to teach them Very Important Lessons about racism. And the way men (especially gay men) are treated in fandom pisses me off, though my reasons are probably different from yours.

A lot of people seem to think that being willing to discuss racism (or sexism, or homophobia) is proof that they're not bigoted. That's simply not true: if all you "see" when you look at poc is their color, then you're racist -- no matter how much of an 'ally' you are.

Despite all this, I'm glad that people in fandom are willing to discuss racism, sexism and homophobia. People always treated me differently because of my race -- at least now it's because they're listening to me.

Pretty sure other Anon here is using poc to mean people of colour in a perfectly legitimate way.

No, I think they're using poc in an exclusionary way that ignores the existence of poc who are not their specific race. If that's not a case of using it wrong, I don't know what is.

(Disclaimer: I am also a poc, but I am not the same race as the other anon and I found the usage offensive because they're not the only race with issues, whether they come up in fandom or not.)
