*recovers, clears throat* Sorry, you know, having one of those odd moments where you're reminded that foods you consider essential (e.g. maple syrup), childhood experiences you think of as formulaic (e.g. going on a maple drive), are not, in fact, universal! How strange.
But yes, seconding putting it on virtually all breakfast-type stuff (pancakes, waffles - what on earth ELSE would you put on those?! just fruit? - eggs if they're scrambled, sausage, bacon) and on many desserts (especially ice cream - good substitute for chocolate/fudge toppings), but NOT tea. Eww...
It's very sweet, and so goes good with sweet things, and balances salty things very nicely, but I agree the taste is too distinctive to blend well with tea.
Also seconding the "maple candy on a stick" thing - even if you are unable to visit Canada some time, you can probably find maple candy to order online if you were ever curious enough. And you can make sugar pie (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sugar_pie) with maple syrup, although that's like...an instant heart attack.
Funny, when I can't get maple syrup for some reason, I tend to pour HONEY on my eggs and bacon as a substitute.
