Think about it. It's like saying "well, I'd potentially like this thing, I don't know if I would if I actually gave it a try, but because so many other people like it I've decided I don't on principle." That is just severely lacking in any sort of logic. It doesn't do anything except deprive you (general you, here!) of something that you might honestly enjoy if you gave it a chance, for pretty much no reason.
As for the other reason, I don't find it stupid though I can't quite understand the people who don't like any pairing that isn't canon. But then, I don't need to understand it. I do think it's lame when people say they dislike one pairing because canon "proved it wrong" when they have other non-canon pairings they love, though. (Not saying the OP does, just in general. I hope that's not the case with the OP, I'm just wary.)
