AYRT--oh boy, count yourself lucky not to have run into these people. I like physical books, too, but I also like being able to carry a hundred books on a device that weighs less than a paperback and that I can fit in my pocket. I (and my back) remember how shitty a backpack full of books is to carry.

People will act superior about absolutely anthing, tbh.

Hmm. I resisted getting a Kindle for a long time because I (thought I) preferred physical books, but it turns out I prefer being able to have hundreds at my fingertips without having to have an extra suitcase just for books when I go on vacation, and now I can't imagine going back. Everyone I know that reads a lot (and pretty much everyone I discuss books with online) uses a Kindle (or another device) so I didn't realize that was even really a thing...interesting.

AYRT--see, I get being against ebooks as they are sold by big companies, with proprietary file types and devices so you can't transfer your files over. (I really need a desktop so I can download Calibre.) And I get enjoying the physical experience of holding and reading a paper book.

I don't get thinking liking and owning dead tree books makes you superior to people who use e-readers or their phone or listen to audiobooks, or get books (in whatever form) from the library.

Also, I love libraries, I work for one. But you are not a superior being because you check out books there, either.

Totally get that! Honestly, even though I still have a Kindle, I use my tablet way more these days (I use an app called AlReader that I like waaay better than the official Kindle one, it works with pretty much any file type, and you can customize just about any aspect of it that you can imagine).

I also get having a preference for physical books, but the idea that it somehow makes you superior is just...dumb.

NAYRT I find Kindles very useful, but I infinitely prefer physical books.

Oh man, same. I resisted e-readers for a long time because "I prefer paper books." Then a few years back Amazon randomly sent me a coupon in my email for their most basic -- at the time -- Kindle, which made the cost only around $20. I figured for that cheap I might as well buy it and it turns out that while I still like books I *love* ebooks. It's so nice to go on a trip and just bring my kindle instead of having to drag around a small stack of books. Plus I don't have to worry about my already overloaded bookshelves being more overloaded, it's great. The only downside so far is I've found I still don't terribly like reading manga on an e-reader.
