Anne is my favorite Bronte, so it makes me sad that her books aren’t as appreciated as Emily’s and Charlotte’s. Book merch with Anne’s works are nowhere near as abundant as merch for Emily’s and Charlotte’s works. I pretty much never hear about Anne outside of a university English class and it bums me out because I just wanna talk about The Tenant of Wildfell Hall and Agnes Grey, but my classmates just want to talk about Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre.

Bonus Secret: I hate Wuthering Heights with a fiery passion because I’ve had at least three classes where I’ve had to study it and it pisses me off every time I read it. Also, I think Shirley’s a better novel than Jane Eyre.

Anne has the best take on men of any author of her time. I love how she turned the dream Byronic man her sisters write into what he is in reality. A violent alcoholic dickhead. Love it.

I used to have the Hark! A Vagrant comic about the Bronte sisters taped to my old desk.

I completely agree.

It may interest you to know that, after Anne and Emily's deaths, Charlotte Bronte actually suppressed the republication of The Tenet Of Wildfell Hall, which played a huge role in it then becoming a footnote next to Charlotte and Emily's books (which were republished). ‘"Wildfell Hall” it hardly appears desirable to preserve. The choice of subject in that work is a mistake.’

This verdict was unfortunately to be a lasting one. In effect Charlotte prevented the re-publication of The Tenant Of Wildfell Hall at a time when it was still in the public eye, and when it had in fact been a huge success – the first edition selling even quicker than Jane Eyre had. The novel was buried along with its writer, and would in fact not be published again until another ten years had passed.
