Spoilers for FFXIV

As deeply as I love this game and do fandom-y stuff with my small circle of friends, I just haven't really gotten around to dipping my toes into the fandom proper. I hadn't heard one way or the other about the quality of it, but I guess I'd assumed it was more or less on par with how I was already used to approaching it.

Seeing the painfully stupid take of "Amaurot was actually just excusing fascism bc the Ascians came from there" made me recoil from any attempt to look any further in. To so drastically miss the point just so you have something to get mad about is not something I want to be even remotely adjacent to.

I think Amaurot was very big on conformity over actual peace, given their uh. Debates over ethics, the only person arguing for doing something even though you might not get anything out of it was you. But otherwise they just read as a very privileged society that stifles anything that isn't deemed useful, where individuality is treated as silly and childish.

Garlemald, however, is fascist and pretty blatantly so.
