In my limited experience of playing Overwatch (and downloading the zip files with all the audio clips -- speech, grunts, and all) I never once heard Reyes/Reaper use Spanish.

I'd like to know why then, at least in many OC/self insert fics, Reyes is out here dropping terms of endearment (or expressing annoyance/ vaguely threatening and flirting) in Spanish. At first I thought it was his regular speech pattern and even wrote some drawer fic with some Spanglish (before I listened to clips and played the game). After actually playing and listening, I'm just confused -- were the writers trying to write out some "Latin Lover" fantasy? Did people not ever play the game and just assume oh well, surely he drops some Spanish here and there since he's Latino/make these kinds of assumptions based of off race/ethnicity? Maybe they wanted to see some more Spanglish in fic and said fuck it, my head canon allows it, I too grew up speaking Spanglish and I want to see it in this fic? It kind of bothers me (not enough to keep me from reading, but I do roll my eyes) but I have found more than enough fic where he doesn't do this.

And honestly, my personal head canon is that McCree speaks more Spanish than him, and Reyes would use it only when needed (if he even speaks Spanish at all).

B!S: I only ever got into this game because if secrets posted here. And I was (and still mostly am) one if those people who never/rarely plays. But I read the shit out of the ever changing lore and watched all the vids. I wanna get it right, ya know?
