Re: Engagement party question for Americans

I'm not really sure there's a setting that says all this, this seems more characterization and dialogue work to me? In general, yeah, there are lots of venues that would fit a generic, expensive, rural setting. Not a barn on a real working farm, but more "event" type places that are set up for large parties with catering, parking and bathroom facilities. Historic homes sometimes offer such locations. So do golf courses and country clubs, though that might be less rural than you're thinking.

What exactly constitutes an historic home in America? Sorry if that sounds like a stupid question. Our local historic property you'd get married in is a 12th century castle you see and i'm thinking ... not that lol.

Where are your characters located? Usually, for instance, if you say "historic home" in the American South, you mean an "antebellum home" which could just be a fancy house in town but could also be an old plantation home still around since before the Civil War.

Or something like this might help they it'd only show you historic places, not tell you which are available to be rented out.

Then again...it's not like you need to explicitly name your hypothetical place after a real one, you could just make one up that sounds legit.

Something like this might also help you find a 'rural' engagement venue to work off of.

AYRT Gotcha, and thank you very much for the links.

Feel free to Google historic homes in America. It won't be a medieval castle, obviously.

AYRT This is one of those things where cultural understanding of the term is far more important than what historic homes a actually exist.
