I just... like that style of expanded plotting?

It's like The Count of Monte Cristo or some other doorstopper of a serialised novel, only with floofy sleeves and wirework fight scenes. I like having a lot of characters to care about, and story arcs that echo themes back and forth, and just all the space.

I'm sorry they're not scratching your itch, nonny. I know it's frustrating when people keep recommending something that just isn't your jam.

Your pic choice is from Ashes of Love and extremely relevant to the secret text

I totally get that, OP. I didn't mind The Untamed flashback as much as I thought I would (though it really threw me for a loop initially) but in other dramas, I've really hated the tangential plot that involves immortals or gods and their mortal trials. It seems to be part of the genre, though. I don't think that makes it "good", it's just... something people expect? I don't know.

I mean, same hat. I don't want to criticise the storytelling format in case that's absolutely how Chinese novels/fiction in general tell their stories, in which case it's very much different strokes for different folks, but on the flip side it sure ain't working for me either.

Actually, OP, are you looking for recs?

Because Princess Silver is hella pretty, has v. limited flashbacks, and absolutely no gods-to-mortals plotlines. (It does have extensive use of amnesia, though.)
